PhD Law and Politics

The Doctoral Programme (PhD) Law and Politics provides young academics with an exceptional education on a high international level. It brings together research and teaching in law and politics on a doctoral level, combining subjects and disciplines. Doctoral students tackle new academic questions independently in their doctoral thesis. They generate new knowledge at the interface between questions that can be better researched through the lens of law and politics, extending their methodological competences in the subject of their doctoral thesis. During the doctoral programme, students learn to independently discuss current questions in the disciplines and to implement them in concrete research projects in order to successfully participate in academic discourse by contributing their own independent research work. To make this possible, doctoral students are taught a comprehensive understanding of theories during their degree, as well as methodological competences needed for academic work between and with different disciplines. By developing a critical and reflective manner of thinking, students are also prepared to formulate recommendations for improvements to public policies.

Graduates of the Law and Politics PhD have comprehensive knowledge and skills in the overlapping area between law and politics, and are able to take into account perspectives in the humanities, social sciences and in economics. This means that they have the ideal skills for contributing to current complex interdisciplinary problems in science, politics, business and society.

The PhD Program in Law and Politics is an interdisciplinary doctoral program that will enable PhD researchers to broaden and deepen their theoretical, methodological and empirical knowledge and academic skills in the field of Law and Political Science.
