Albania is the foremost supporter of European integration in Southeast Europe. According to public opinion surveys, Albanians have developed the most positive attitude towards EU membership in the entire region. Media has been one of the main sources of information and an important factor contributing to shaping public perception. The presentation will focus on if, what, and how media discourse has covered European Integration issues in Albania. Drawing on content analyses of a large-scale database of newspapers, we look at stories dealing either exclusively or in part with European integration and provide an empirical assessment of the patterns of the EU visibility, the degree of Europeanness of media coverage, and the way in which media discourse frames European Integration issues.
Dorian Jano is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Southeast European Studies. Prior to joining the CSEES, Dr. Jano has been a visiting lecturer in different universities and has also served as a research fellow at the Institute for European Integration in Hamburg, and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Budapest.
