In this seminar, Ana Pajvančić-Cizelj will present the Marie Curie project „Spatialities of Europeanization in Western Balkans“. As the project just recently started, the presentation will include the background of the research, main arguments and theoretical frameworks, aims, methodology and the gender aspects of the project. The research address a gap related to Western Balkans cities in global urban studies and focus on Europeanization as a specific form of globalization. As this research goes beyond city-centrism and employs relational thinking, the Europeanization will be analyzed by looking into the role of multiple spatialities such as inter-urban networks, places, territories and scales. The main argument is that these undertheorized spatialities are strategic sites where circulating discourses and practices about Europe are produced, reproduced and transformed. Based on that, the project aims to propose a new socio-spatial conception of Europeanization and a new methodological tool for further research.
