Arqus Joint Master's Programme in European Studies
Arqus Joint Master's Programme in European Studies
The Arqus Joint Master’s Programme in European Studies is a jointly offered programme by four participating universities: University of Graz, University of Granada, Leipzig University and Vilnius University. The programme was developed under the umbrella of Arqus, an alliance of nine European universities.
The Arqus Joint Master’s Programme in European Studies provides students with a multidisciplinary understanding of Europe as a global actor, drawing on a range of approaches in the social sciences and the humanities. The programme focuses on the relationship between Europeanisation and globalisation, the impact of global developments on Europe and the changing role of the continent in the new world order. The course offers various disciplinary and regional perspectives on selected subject areas and thus conveys the ability to combine insights, methods and theories from different disciplines in independent problem solving. It helps students to understand processes of Europeanization and globalization as interwoven and mutually influencing.
The 120 ECTS credit programme can be completed in two years and allows students to study in up to three locations to gain international experience. In addition to in-person teaching, blended and online teaching are also integral parts of the curriculum. Students can put a programme together individually because each of the four partner universities brings in different focal points. The University of Graz offers expertise in the areas of South Eastern Europe, peace, migration and climate change as well as dealing with diversity in our societies.
MA programme is primarily designed as a scientific programme that trains students to work in the areas of research and research-based advice of various social actors in Europe and abroad. At the same time, it prepares students for a number of professional fields outside of the university. Thus, after completing the programme students can pursue a career, e.g., in academia (university and non-university research institutions), public administration (national, regional and local level), the non-governmental sector, international organisations, think tanks and advisory organizations, education and training institutions, media and cultural institutions.
At the end of their studies students will be awarded the academic degree "Master of Arts" in European Studies, abbreviated "M.A.". The degree is jointly awarded by the four participating universities (joint degree).
