Arqus Joint Master's Programme in European Studies
Arqus Joint Master's Programme in European Studies
The Arqus Joint Master's Programme in European Studies is offered jointly by four participating universities: University of Graz, University of Granada, University of Leipzig and Vilnius University. The programme was developed within the framework of Arqus, an alliance of nine European universities.
The Arqus Joint Master's Programme in European Studies offers students a multidisciplinary understanding of Europe as a global actor, drawing on various approaches from the social sciences and humanities. The programme focuses on the relationship between Europeanisation and globalisation, the impact of global developments on Europe and the continent's changing role in the new world order. The course offers different disciplinary and regional perspectives on selected topics and thus teaches the ability to combine insights, methods and theories from different disciplines in independent problem solving. It helps students to understand processes of Europeanisation and globalisation as intertwined and mutually influencing.
The 120 ECTS credit programme can be completed in two years and allows students to study in up to three locations to gain international experience. In addition to face-to-face teaching, blended learning and online teaching are also an integral part of the curriculum. Students can put together their programme individually, as each of the four partner universities has a different focus. The University of Graz offers expertise in the areas of Southeast Europe, peace, migration and climate change as well as in dealing with diversity in our society.
The Master's programme is primarily designed as an academic programme that prepares students for work in the fields of research and research-based consulting for various social actors in Europe and abroad. At the same time, it prepares students for a range of professional fields outside the university. For example, graduates of the programme can pursue a career in academia (universities and non-university research institutions), in public administration (national, regional and local), in the non-governmental sector, in international organisations, think tanks and consultancy organisations, in educational and training institutions, in media and cultural institutions.
At the end of their studies, students are awarded the academic degree"Master of Arts" in European Studies, abbreviated to "M.A.". The degree is awarded jointly by the four participating universities (joint degree).
