Contemporary Southeastern Europe
Contemporary Southeastern Europe (CSE) was founded in autumn 2013 as an online academic journal that publishes peer-reviewed and open access articles. Since 2016, CSE has been included in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), in 2019 in the Central and Eastern European Online Library (CEEOL) and in 2021 in the Scopus database. CSE accepts articles from various disciplines such as political science, history, law, sociology, economics, cultural studies, gender studies and anthropology. As an interdisciplinary journal, we welcome contributions that combine different approaches and methods from the fields listed above. Our aim is to support the continuous expansion of research on Southeast Europe.
The geographical scope of CSE includes Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. We particularly welcome inter- and transnational analyses. The contemporary focus of our journal ranges from the end of state socialism to the present day. Nevertheless, CSE is also open to historical research if it contributes to the understanding of current affairs.
CSE publishes two issues per year, one in summer and one in winter, but all articles are published once they have been peer-reviewed, revised, proofread and formatted. Therefore, the common "bottleneck" problem of conventional journals does not apply to CSE.
CSE is published by the Centre for Southeast European Studies (CSEES) at the University of Graz.
