The Working Paper Series provides a forum for the publication of new research by Visting Fellows, scholars at the University of Graz and beyond. The Centre for Southeast European Studies at the University of Graz invites scholars to contribute to the Working Paper Series.
The Working Papers consider research and analyses on Southeast Europe from a variety of research perspectives, such as law, history, political science, anthropology and sociology. Interdisciplinary and innovative research is particularly encouraged.

The Balkans in Europe Policy Advisory Group (BiEPAG) is an open group of policy analysts, academics and researchers founded as a joint initiative of the European Fund for the Balkans and the Centre for South East European Studies at the University of Graz. The aim of the group is to support the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union and to contribute to the consolidation of democracy in the region by facilitating evidence-based political dialogue. To this end, BiEPAG is designed as a platform to bring the various political and development stakeholders of the individual countries of the Western Balkans - on the one hand, and the institutions and branches of the European Union and the governments of its member states - closer together on the other.
Four main methods are used in BiEPAG's work:
Developing research-based proposals for policy measures to accelerate reform and democratisation in the Western Balkan countries and to overcome the enlargement pause within the European Union;
Disseminating the recommendations and - with the support of BiEPAG's extensive partner network in the European Union and the Western Balkans - advocating the recommended measures at high-level meetings and in expert forums;
Promoting expert debate - by bringing together policy and expert communities and encouraging the exchange of different views;
Promoting and democratising public debate on issues relevant to the Europeanisation of the Western Balkans - through the BiEPAG blog, which brings together policy makers, analysts and academics to discuss the most pressing issues in the region.
This blog is dedicated to sharing reflections on research on Southeast Europe. In it, we discuss our experiences of researching Southeast Europe, notes from archives, methodological challenges, field experiences and broader reflections on conducting research on the region against an interdisciplinary background. This blog is an open platform for researchers of all levels and interdisciplinary backgrounds.
