PhD Law and Politics
Das englischsprachige Doktoratsprogramm „PhD Law & Politics“ ist ein interdisziplinäres Doktoratsstudium, das von der Rewissenschaftlichen Fakultät und dem Zentrum für Südosteuropastudien angeboten wird. Das Ziel des Programms ist es, Dissertant:innen zu ermöglichen, ihr theoretisches, methodologisches und empirisches Wissen sowie ihre akademischen Fähigkeiten auf dem Gebiet der Rechts- und Politikwissenschaften zu vertiefen und zu erweitern.
Im Laufe des Programms lernen die Studierenden, eigenständig aktuelle Fragen in den Disziplinen zu diskutieren und sie in konkreten Forschungsprojekten umzusetzen, um erfolgreich am akademischen Diskurs teilzunehmen, indem sie ihre eigenen unabhängigen Forschungsarbeiten einbringen.
Absolvent:innen des Programms verfügen über umfassende Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten in den Bereichen Rechtswissenschaften und Politikwissenschaft und sind in der Lage, Perspektiven aus den Geisteswissenschaften, den Sozialwissenschaften und der Wirtschaft zu berücksichtigen. Dies bedeutet, dass sie über die Fähigkeiten verfügen, um zu aktuellen komplexen interdisziplinären Problemen in Wissenschaft, Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft beizutragen.

Call for Applications - PhD Program Law and Politics
The PhD Program in Law and Politics is an interdisciplinary doctoral program that will enable PhD researchers to broaden and deepen their theoretical, methodological and empirical knowledge and academic skills in the field of Law and Political Science.
The application deadline is on 30th April 2025.
The PhD Program in Law and Politics is an interdisciplinary doctoral program that will enable PhD researchers to broaden and deepen their theoretical, methodological and empirical knowledge and academic skills in the field of Political Science and Law.
The application deadline is 30th April 2025 and the application material has to be submitted in electronic form via online application tool. Admission to the PhD program in Law and Politics is subject to an admissions process. This consists of a written application, which will be evaluated and ranked by the selection committee. In total, the program offers up to 10 PhD places. The applicants will be notified about their acceptance by 31st May 2025.
Due to the interdisciplinary approach of the study program, each topic has to be related to either Law or Political Science.
Application
Applicants need to submit the following documents for the admissions process:
- Current photo
- Passport or Identity card
- A short expose with the intended topic of dissertation (in English, max.8000 characters).
- A motivation letter related to PhD Law & Politics with provisional dissertation timeline (in English, max. 2 A4 pages).
- A curriculum vitae (in English, max. 3 A4 pages).
- Application for admission to the doctoral program and admission to the doctoral school
- University degree diploma(s) and evidence of all completed university programs (Diploma/Bachelor’s/Master’s certificate, graduation certificate)
- Transcript of records (with ECTS or contact hours per semester).
- Proof of sufficient knowledge of English[1]
[1] TOEFL iBT (score of at least 95) ;IELTS Academic (score of at least 7.0) ;Cambridge Proficiency English CPE; Cambridge Advanced English CAE (score of at least 180/ Grade C or better); Telc C1; Pearson Test of English; Academic PTE (score of at least 76) ;A school-leaving certificate with English as the language of education (e.g. Great Britain, Ireland, America, Canada, New Zealand) ; Degree programme already completed in English as the language of education (the language of instruction English must be officially confirmed in the Diploma Supplement)
